Hawkshead Gardens

The brief was to create a mixture of two and three bedroom townhouses with an emphasis on entertainment space, luxury and a feeling of being comfortably at home. The site was particularly challenging as it slopes east/west as well as north/south and the ground is very rocky. The site is conveniently located, close to Borrowdale Brooke and the Helensvale Shopping Centre and within easy travelling distance to Sam Levy’s Village. It’s a quiet area just off Crowhill Road and it’s fully walled and gated so it’s very secure. We came up with an innovative solution – a bio-digester system which is extremely efficient and environmentally friendly. The system was constructed locally by an affiliate of ZERA and took around four weeks for full installation. The waste water from the houses is fed into a system of tanks where the solid waste is broken down and the black and grey water is cleaned and disinfected in a natural, environmentally friendly manner, the clean water is potable but the residents prefer to use it for watering their gardens while a borehole supplies drinking water.
